Do you know if it is possible to use in a non-authenticated environment so that users specify their own names when posting? I need a replacement for my support forum and this might do the trick if I can do that.

Yes, it is possible to use in a non-authenticated environment. I use domBulletin in a mixed environment. Anonymous users are allowed to post replies and should specify their name. Authenticated users can also post new topics en edit their previous posts. I am as excited about domBulletin as Julian Robichaux is. Easy to setup, great features and good looking. If you need a replacement for your support forum you should look at domBulletin.
